To be honest I wanted to visit Cornwall for some years... Mainly because of some books I read and because I spent three important summers at the english seaside when I was 14-16 (and you know... those are some very important years). So when I thought about spending some quality time with, well, me, I immediately thought of the cornish seaside and the dreamy cottages and thought... this is were I want to spent my break (more about that break and traveling alone in one of the following posts, I promise!). So I booked a flight to London, thought a lot about my travelling in the country (bus, train... rental car? And decided for a rental car, although I was a little afraid of "driving on the wrong side of the road"... but on the other hand, I wanted to do some scary things and I decided, driving in Britain should be one of them...). - Little did I know then what other scary situations were ahead of me (but let me come to that in a later post... now I just wanna make you a little jealous with all the great places I have seen).
Well then I spent A LOT of time looking for accomodations. I really wanted something cute and cosy and it took me some time to find the right appartement for a week. You guys, if you are going to go there by yourself or with your spouse, I definitly recommend the "SEAVIEW MEADOW" in Mousehole. It is dreamy. It is light and airy and perfect for two (you can find it here). The owners are great, it is a five minutes walk down to the beach and it is quiet and lovely. I especially loved lying in bed and listening to the rain in some nights through the windows. I will go there again, thats for sure! - It was a great price as well!.
Thats Mousehole Harbour at low tide. Love the colorful cute boats.
I visited a lot of the south-western sites and attractions and loved everything. It was quite good that I had my own little car, made everything a lot easier. The roads in Cornwall are very tight and narrow - but driving left is quite logical!
My favorite beach was Porthcurno, really quiet and romantic, some families but lots of space.
Definitly worth the visit was Minack Theatre. I even went there for a play, what was a lot of fun. I would have loved to see some Shakespeare, but there was an Orson Welles play, very funny! Cold (I MEAN COOOOLD), but I had some blankets, all my clothes and a hot water bag...) I love that people can bring their own food and are having wine and a little picnic during the wait and intermission! (Book your tickets here)
Loved all the little houses and seafront villages, but Saint Ives, here, was too loud and full of people. I liked shopping there, but did not stay for very long. (I wanted the quiet, thats why!)
Loved all the blues. Love that they paint their doors really colorful over there. Fell in love with the sea-theme all over mousehole. Fishermen, Anchors etc. bought some really cute decorations there.
Of course I had to try the cornish cream tea, I dont know, if I really like scones, but it was definitly different (with the salty butter and jam...). Loved the tea, though. Drank A LOT of tea....Und die Rosenlimonade ist auch total lecker.
The Rockpool Cafe (find here) was awesome. Their handmade tiles, the little beach hut outside, the view. I spent some great hours there. It eve is in this months "Homes & Antiques", because it is so special! If you go there, try the rose lemonade - it is AWESOME!
What was really fascinating to me, were all the flowers, the whole flora really (but the fauna was interesting as well... saw some foxes, rabbits, a dax, deers, fasans...) But back to the flora: Because of some subtropical climate there were palm trees and so many flowers! Flowers all over the place. I think Cornwall is the only place in the world, where you find a bus stop full of flowers!:D
Was ich auch absoltu liebe in England allgemein, sind all die alten Dinge. Alte Türme, Kirchen, Burgen...
One thing I really really really love about England is the great old buildings everywhere. Cornwall is not different. Love the churches, castles,
celtic stone circles and unknown stuff, love the feeling of history and feel so small and young besides something like that (here you can see the merry maidens, they have a cute little stories - 9 girls went dancing although it was forbidden in their time. Thats why they got turned into stones.... Some pipers are nearby as well:D)
some gates just leading... I dont know where...
My favorite places - beside the beaches - were the old graveyards. They felt so peacefull with their old stones, sunken in, not straigth at all... and the grass all over them. Loved it. Visited 6 or 7 i think, really great to rest there in those resting places!
This is the coolest house I have seen. I wanna live there so badly!
Oh Cornwall... I miss you!
